Even though certain business and medical technicalities are necessary for the storyline, Dempsey pulls it off masterfully; i.e., one has no trouble understanding and doesn’t bog the reader down. Dempsey's first novel Options is a brilliantly done mystery novel. The characters are complex and intriguing. The plot line is incredibly diverse and keeps the reader guessing until the very end - seemingly unrelated events are tied together seamlessly. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a thriller.

This thriller is Dempsey's first novel and he has crafted a gripping tale where he has combined flawless reasearch and brilliant character development to engage the reader on an economic field of play which screams mastery. Dont miss this page turner. Can't wait for the Sophomore work!
This is Steve Dempsey's first novel, and it is a very imaginative multiple murder mystery. Steve is a professor of accounting at the University of Vermont so naturally the hero, Jonathan Sands, is a CPA in the Boston office of a major accounting firm, and the heroine is a hot shot junior accountant in that office. In the process of conducting the firm's first audit of a major new client, the pair uncovers a potential fraud in which Sands' former college roommate may be deeply implicated. Their attempt to get to the bottom of things takes them on an always suspenseful and sometimes violent cross country/continent journey at the end of which they hope not only to find not only the answer to the apparent fraud, but to another murder that has haunted Sands since his college days. The book is very well written with a few glitches that better editing would have avoided.
I'm lovin this book. Full of suspense. I'm only on Chapter Nine and I can't wait to find out how the story ends.
Tremendous. Kept me guessing until the end. Characters were well-developed dialogue was funny and engaging. Plot was unique and unexpected for the genre. For a first novel this was superb. Can't wait for Dempsey's next book! Brilliant.
Stephen Dempsey's Options is a great read. The plot twists and turns in interesting and surprising ways. Dempsey takes you into the world of mergers and takeovers, providing enough information to allow you to follow the action, but never bogging done in the details. His characters are memorable. His ability to martial a complex plot over several decades is a wonder to behold. I highly recommend it.
This book has all the aspects of a great murder-mystery the "loose end," the unlikely romance, even an adrenaline-pumping shootout. As an avid fan of this genre, I can usually predict the outcome within a few chapters, but with Dempsey's novel, I was left guessing until the end. If you're looking for a crime novel with a tasteful limitation on steamy love scenes and an emphasis on uncovering the truth behind the crime, this novel is a perfect fit. Highly recommend!
