Holiday Sparks edition by Shannon Stacey Contemporary Romance eBooks

House-sitting for her parents seemed like a good idea, until the microwave blew up and the lights went out.

After all, Chloe plans to get out of this goldfish bowl of a town and back to her real life in Boston by New Year's.

My Rating: A, I loved it.Chloe Burke has returned to her small hometown to watch over her parents' home while they are on a three-week cruise. When she blows a fuse and needs help, she calls on town electrician Scott Quinn. While Chloe doesn't recognize Scott, he has no troubling recalling the detailed teenage fantasies he had of Chloe in her high school cheerleading uniform. As a gift to her parents, Chloe hires Scott to rewire her childhood home during the three weeks she'll be staying there, finishing just in time for Christmas. With the pair alone, in close quarters, will they be able to resist their mutual attraction?
HOLIDAY SPARKS is an extremely enjoyable, light-hearted romance, which can be enjoyed regardless of the season. Chloe and Scott are both kind, generous souls, with little to no baggage, so there isn't a lot of conflict getting in their way. When they agree to a "no strings attached" affair while she's in town, the heat picks up and I'll admit I had a few butterflies in my tummy. I reveled in their budding feelings, which made me smile. Yet it was watching each internally fight the intensity of their growing emotions that truly makes the story enjoyable.
Enhancing the cheerful romance are the bits of humor Ms. Stacey peppers throughout the short tale. It's the kind of humor with which we are familiar, creating a comfortable atmosphere and characters that I can relate to. Whether it is silly jokes about why Scott is spending so much time at Chloe's home or errant thoughts about how sexy the other is, the story made me smile over and over.
Although this is a novella-length tale, there are some very touching moments. The pair spend a lot of time together both in and out of the bedroom, fostering those feelings of "more than friends," and allowing me to connect to the pair. I adore that Scott is so in-tune to Chloe that when he inadvertently hurts her feelings, he notices - and takes the time to figure out why. As time ran out for the couple, I admit, I had a tear in my eye and a few sniffles. This is a sign of excellent storytelling - I was completely invested in Chloe and Scott.
I don't read contemporary romance all that often, but based on how much I enjoyed HOLIDAY SPARKS, I have added Ms. Stacey's backlist to my TBR. I highly recommend this short, lovely romance to all. It is utterly sweet and engrossing while providing strong characters that I throughly enjoyed.

Holiday Sparks edition by Shannon Stacey Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
My Review
I enjoyed this book. It wasn't a new storyline...boy & girl knew each other in high school, one was cool, one was decidedly not, unrequited crush, years later and the chemistry is through the roof when they meet again. What was a bit different about this story line was that in this story, it was the guy that was seriously uncool in high school. I really liked that one little twist especially when Scott is chatting with his friend from high school about Chloe...how quickly they revert back to being 17 years old...LOL!
When Chloe is house-sitting for her parents over the holidays, she decides to surprise them by having the entire house re-wired while they are gone. The electrician is Scott, the overweight, dorky kid that gave her a dandelion in high school, and he has turned into a serious hottie as an adult. I really loved Scott and how he would have those flashback moments where he revisited his 17 yo mentality. It made him completely human with a slightly vulnerable side which made him completely adorable. He is a completely sexy gorgeous man now, but he has moments that are just so sweet as he remembers how Chloe has always made him feel. The mix of that along with the very real chemistry that they have as adults makes this just a phenomenal heart-warming read.
I liked Chloe too. You would think from hearing about her and how she was so perfect in high school, that she might have an attitude, but she is a web designer now. Yes, she lives in the big city of Boston now, but she spends most of her hours working out of her house and being a homebody. Just the fact that she remembers Scott from that one little dandelion gift says so much about her character. She may have been the popular one in high school, but she was always a good person...just in a prettier package than Scott had at that point in time.
This novella was part of the holiday Carina Press anthology from last year. After reading several of these novellas from both this year's and last year's anthologies (both their general and m/m anthos), I have to say that I think that these are some of the best holiday novella reading to be found. I truly have enjoyed every single one of these that I have read. Another winner with this one!
Oh boy why haven't I read anything by Shannon Stacey before?!
This was a wonderful contemporary romance, bringing a touch of Christmas with it, but perfect for reading at any time of the year. It featured two likeable characters who have something of a past - he was the school nerd and she one of the popular cheerleaders - but their present isn't defined by who they were back then. It is a shorter story, but I didn't feel as though the happy ending suffered because of it.
Chloe Burke is back in her hometown housesitting for her parents. The moment she arrives she has an accident the electrical wiring in the house is ancient and she blows a circuit. In comes electrician Scott Quinn; Chloe was his adolescent fantasy, but he wasn't even on her radar. Chloe makes the decision to have the entire house rewired as a Christmas present for her parents, which gives the pair time to get to know each other - and fall in love.
The book thrives on its funny and realistic dialogue which make the characters so much fun. My heart broke a little for Scott and the skinny dork he was in the past, and cheered for him for being exactly who he wanted to be now, no hang-ups from before.
This may sound like just another Christmas romance, but in the hands of someone as talented as Stacey, it's fantastic.
